Independent Living FAQ

1. What is independent retirement living?

Independent living is typically a senior housing community or apartment buidling that may provide some supportive services such as meals, housekeeping, social activities, and transportation. Congregate Housing, Supportive Housing, and Retirement Community are also terms that may be used interchangeably with independent living. Independent Living typically encourages socialization by provision of meals in a central dining area and scheduled social programs.

2. Do I purchase my independent living unit?
Some independent living communities will require an endowment or a large buy in fee. At the Integracare communities, however there is only a small entrance fee and a monthly fee.

3. Are utilities included in my rent?
Yes, all utilities, except phone and cable, are included in the monthly fee.

4. Are meals included?
Residents who live in our independent senior living apartments, studios or suites have meals included as a part of their monthly fee. Which meals may vary from community to community. Additional meals can be purchased for a nominal additional charge.

5. Are housekeeping services included in my monthly fee?

A housekeeper is available every week without additional charge.

6. Do the independent living apartments have an emergency system if I need help?

Yes. All senior independent living apartments have emergency cords which can be pulled to summon nursing personnel 24-hours a day in the case of an emergency.

7. What if I need a higher level of care?

The Woods at Cedar Run offers residents a continuum of care including senior assisted living/personal care and specialty Alzheimer’s care. Independent senior living residents needing additional assistance can transition into a higher level of care without ever leaving the community.

8. Are there accommodations for my guests, including overnight?

The Woods at Cedar Run can provide guest room services for a small additional fee.

9. Do you allow pets?

Yes, The Woods at Cedar Run is a pet friendly community. We require a non-refundable pet deposit.

10. Do you have a Wait List Program?

Yes. With our Wait List Program you can select the type of residence you desire. When it becomes available we will contact you so you can begin to prepare for move in.

11. What is included in my monthly rent fee for independent living?
• Two meals each day(may vary depending on community)
• Electricity, gas, water and garbage
• Housekeeping Services
• Maintenance Services
• Transportation to Medical/Dental/Shopping/Activities(may vary depending on community)

12. Does my rent increase upon renewal?

Rents are reviewed on an annual basis and adjusted to accommodate for cost of living and general increases in expenses, upkeep of the building interior and exterior and other factors. Historically, rent increases average 2-4% per year.

13. Do I get priority admittance to Senior Assisted Living or Memory Care if I need it?

Yes! Independent Living residents are on the priority admittance list for our senior assisted living and memory care facilities. Residents who move from the independent living on a temporary basis keep their apartment. If a resident wants to move to senior assisted living or memory care program permanently, your lease is terminated with a 30 day notice.
