Sully, whose owners are Brock and Laura Shaffer of Clearfield, won a trophy during last year’s Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield Pet Parade. Sully wore a lion’s mane costume. This year’s Halloween Pet Parade will be held on October 19 at the senior living community with donations benefiting the local SPCA.
Senior Living Community’s Indoor Event Supports Clearfield County SPCA
CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Pets and a parade. People love them both.
Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield will feature this winning combination during its Halloween Pet Parade at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The senior living community located at 1300 Leonard Street also will use the indoor event to assist the Clearfield County SPCA. Guests are asked to bring a pet-themed item that will be donated to the SPCA.
“This event is great for our residents and their families,” said Calley Kephart, LifeStages Director at Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield. “We currently have two dogs that participate in monthly pet therapy visits. The residents absolutely love these visits. The pet parade takes the concept another step further and also is for a great cause.”
Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield previously has held pet parades, and residents responded favorably. Prizes are awarded in categories such as most scary, most funny, most creative and most pretty costumes donned by the pets.
Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield residents traditionally bake homemade treats for the pets participating in the parade.
“To see our halls paraded with so many furry friends in costume is special. The residents just truly lit up,” Kephart said of the reaction to other pet parades in the senior living community. “There are so many benefits of animals for seniors. Companionship, mental health, stress relief and emotional interaction are a few.
“The noticeable change that a dog or cat may bring to one of our residents is truly amazing,” she said. “The fact that this event also helps through the donation of supplies to our local SPCA makes it even more rewarding for all involved.”
Previous pet parades at Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield included dogs of all sizes, cats, fish in containers and even small reptiles.
“We are pet friendly and invite residents to bring their pets with them when we welcome them home at our community,” said Sandy English, Community Relations Director at Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield. “We love to see their pets in costume in the parade. Their family members or our own team members also are welcome to include their pets in this special event.”
