Senior Living Community Dining Experience Team Prepares Monthly Meal
TYRONE, Pa. — Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone senior living community has once again joined forces with Calvary Tyrone Church and other area congregations to help provide meals for local residents facing hunger.
The outreach, hosted at Calvary Church at 1062 Pennsylvania Ave. in Tyrone, serves three community meals each week — on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 6 p.m. — to anyone who is homeless or struggling to make ends meet. The initiative began in September and will continue through the spring months.
“For the second year in a row, this amazing team in our senior living community jumped at the opportunity to support our local Tyrone community, proving once again that generosity and kindness truly know no bounds,” said Dawn Karlheim, Executive Operations Officer of Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone.
“When we were asked if we could provide meals again this year, we knew we wanted to continue to be a part of a program that is making a difference for people in the Tyrone community,” she said. “We believe in doing what we can to help.”
Last year, the partnership had a significant impact helping those in need. The success of the initiative inspired Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone to once again contribute to the cause. The senior living community will provide a monthly meal as part of the ongoing effort to nourish both body and spirit.
“We’re fortunate to have a talented, experienced dining team providing healthy nutritious meals for the residents at Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone,” said Jennifer Fleck, Community Relations Director of Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone. “They enjoy sharing their skills and recipes by providing meals for people in the Tyrone community as well.”
The initiative involves several team members from the senior living community, including Karlheim, Fleck, Dining Experience Director Mary Komisar, who helps plan the menus, and Cuisineur Shawn Spicer, who delivers the meals to Calvary Church.
“Everyone here has such a big heart,” Karlheim said. “When we prepare these meals, our residents and staff know they’re contributing to something larger than themselves — something that makes a real difference in the community.”
Sarah Ewing, coordinator at Calvary Tyrone Church, expressed her appreciation for the partnership.
“We are thankful for the Colonial Courtyard staff who graciously prepare and deliver meals for our outreach ministry,” Ewing said.
Her husband, Bill Ewing, Gathering Pastor at Calvary Church, echoed that gratitude.
“We cannot express enough our heartfelt gratitude to Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone for partnering with us as we feed the hungry and meet physical and spiritual needs with the love and in the name of Jesus Christ for an eternal impact,” he said.
The collaboration has strengthened bonds not only between the churches and Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone, but also among community members who come together to support one another.
“Our residents and staff are always eager to serve,” Karlheim said. “Even one meal a month can bring comfort and connection to someone who needs to know they’re not alone. That’s what community is all about.”
