Home Again: Kataya Murray Returns to Talbot County with Focus on Seniors
Candle Light Cove Resident Wellness Director has Extensive Nursing Background
EASTON, Maryland — Kataya Murray’s nursing career has spanned multiple cities and specialties, from long-term care and skilled nursing to cardiac step-down and telemetry.
As the new Resident Wellness Director at Candle Light Cove, she returns to her Talbot County roots, bringing her expertise to the Easton senior living community.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work in many states and facilities as a travel registered nurse, but being able to come back to my home and pour into the community that has poured into me, it holds great value to me,” Murray said. “I’m truly honored to be here and be part of such a great team.
“No matter how far I’ve traveled, my heart always led me back to helping seniors, the very people who had first inspired my career years ago.”
With 11 years in healthcare, Murray served in roles as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), geriatric nursing assistant (GNA), licensed practical nurse (LPN) and registered nurse (RN).
“Kataya has worked in long-term care, memory care and skilled nursing as well as working in acute care,” said Steven Schuyler, Executive Operations Officer at Candle Light Cove.
“She’s been part of a progressive care unit and has experience in telemetry and cardiac step-down. Her experience is such an asset and will help improve the lives of our senior residents.”
Becoming a mother two years ago changed the career trajectory for Murray, whose daughter inspired her to reestablish hometown ties.
“I wanted to provide my child the same strong foundation my parents had given me,” Murray said. “Moving back to Talbot County provided the opportunity to accomplish this goal of establishing roots and stability.”
Murray also is providing a blueprint her own daughter might one day follow.
“As a career-driven mother, I want to set a great example for my daughter to show her that you can attain anything that you set your mind to,” Murray said. “My parents always taught my sisters and I that ‘an honest living is the best kind of living,’ and that ‘you can have anything as long as you are willing to work for it.’ This holds true. Being able to be a career driven mother isn’t always the easiest, but it is so rewarding.”
The Candle Light Cove team appreciates Murray not only for her clinical knowledge and ability to connect with the residents, but also for her heart.
“Kataya isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and help with daily routines,” said Grace Lyons, Community Relations Director at Candle Light Cove. “She encourages open communication between our team and residents.”
Working with senior living residents at Candle Light Cove in her hometown wasn’t just a career move; it was a full-circle moment.
“I’m able to care for and help our team improve the lives of our seniors and do so in the same community that supported my dreams,” Murray said.
