PA Senior Living Community Outperforms National Turnover Rates by Wide Margin
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – For the fifth consecutive year, Magnolias of Chambersburg achieved the lowest team member turnover rate among 17 IntegraCare senior living communities across three states.
In 2024, Magnolias of Chambersburg had a turnover rate of just 24% — well below the industry average listed as 85% in some national reports. Halfway through 2025, the senior living community has reported zero turnover.
Kristine Wenrick, Executive Operations Officer at Magnolias of Chambersburg, attributes the community’s five-year streak earning IntegraCare’s Low Team Member Turnover Award to its strong, people-centered culture.
“The magic is in the time you invest in people — making them feel valued and cared for,” Wenrick said. “It’s about knowing their stories, being a rock during their hardest moments and being intentional in how you lead.”
Wenrick emphasizes connection: learning the names of team members’ children, checking in when their families are facing challenges, and holding annual one-on-one meetings with every staff member.
This approach stands in stark contrast to broader industry trends. A 2024 report from the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care (NIC) showed an 85% turnover rate across all senior living positions — including 44% for Resident Assistants, 40% for Certified Nursing Assistants, and 38.6% for Licensed Practical Nurses.
Despite those statistics, Magnolias of Chambersburg continues to buck the trend.
“If you’ve ever visited Magnolias, you know something special is happening there,” said IntegraCare CEO Larry Rouvelas. “Residents smile and thrive, team members support one another, and families are grateful. This is the kind of place we’d all want to live as we age.”
Since 2020, Magnolias of Chambersburg has earned IntegraCare’s Low Team Member Turnover Award. Rouvelas praised Wenrick and her team in a letter celebrating the 2024 achievement:
“Starting in 2020 — while most of healthcare was shaken by staff fleeing COVID — Magnolias of Chambersburg actually reduced its turnover. In 2021, ’22, ’23, and now ’24, you continued that excellence,” Rouvelas said in the letter. “Last year, you achieved a remarkable low 24% turnover. That’s in the same industry that averages over three-times that turnover pace.
“Such low turnover comes from many people doing many things right: giving and receiving respect; having each other’s backs; hiring and training well; solving problems professionally; having fun; being dedicated to serving others. If every senior housing community were like
Magnolias of Chambersburg, the world would be a much better place. You and your team are making the world better together.”
