The Residence at Presque Isle Bay will enjoy unique opportunity
ERIE, Pa. – Senior living residents and their families will have an opportunity to be part of a celebration of maritime heritage as the renowned fleet of Tall Ships navigates Lake Erie on Thursday, August 25.
The Residence at Presque Isle Bay, an IntegraCare-operated senior living community, will hold a Tall Ships Event to coincide with the arrival of the historic vessels on Pennsylvania’s only port to the Great Lakes.
The traditional Parade of Sails will begin at 4 p.m. on August 25.
“The Tall Ships will enter the bay and sail right past our rear courtyard,” said Betty Clark, Executive Operations Officer at The Residence at Presque Isle Bay. “We decided to host our own Tall Ships Event because we feel it is important to celebrate the wonderful things in life and share experiences. Our residents’ families also will be a part of this celebration.”
A tall ship is a large, traditionally-rigged sailing vessel such as topsail schooners, brigantines and brigs. The vessel’s multi-layer sails and high masts often produce a breath-taking image on the water. The Residence at Presque Isle Bay has a panoramic view of Lake Erie, which provides a perfect vantage point to watch the Parade of Sails.
The Residence at Presque Isle Bay Tall Ships Event, which will include an old-fashioned fried chicken picnic at the senior living community, is only part of a four-day maritime celebration that will be held throughout the Erie area.
From August 25-28, the fleet of tall ships will participate in a festival that also will include live music and entertainment, children’s activities, a festival marketplace and food vendors in Erie.
“The festival is so important to the region,” Clark said. “The Residence at Presque Isle Bay is proud to hold our own gathering for our residents and their family members to coincide with such a great event in Erie.”
