Candle Light Cove will hold its fifth Peep Show as part of the senior living community’s Spring Festival, which concludes on March 16. Shown are two Peep Show entries from 2023, including last year’s winning entry by Home Instead entitled Wednesday that was based on the Netflix TV Show.
Easton Senior Living Community to Cap Spring Festival by Naming Contest Winners
EASTON, Maryland – In March 2018, Candle Light Cove introduced to its residents a somewhat quirky and fun contest that used the holiday-themed marshmallow treats known as Peeps to create artistic entries.
Six years later, the Peep Show has evolved as an anticipated tradition that now is part of the senior living community’s Spring Festival.
“This is our fifth Peep Show. It continues to grow and get better each year,” said Grace Lyons, Candle Light Cove Community Relations Director. “We’ve added the Spring Festival component and this allows folks from the community to come to Candle Light Cove and view the Peep Show displays in-person. Attendees can also vote for their favorite three displays.”
Candle Light Cove’s Spring Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 16 at the senior living community located at 106 West Earle Avenue in Easton.
Peep Show entries may be dropped off at Candle Light Cove between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week leading up to the Spring Festival, with the deadline of March 15 for final entries. Contest first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced after the “Peeples Choice Awards” voting concludes at 2 p.m. on March 16.
The $5 contest entry fee and other proceeds of the Spring Festival/Peep Show will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and the Parkinson’s Foundation. The Spring Festival will include local vendor booths, food trucks and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
“The Peep Show displays use the delicious marshmallow treats to create a sculpture, mosaic, diorama or any other type of visual art,” Lyons said. “The displays are colorful, with a mix of the blue, pink and yellow Peeps used to create artwork.”
The 2023 Peep Show first-place display by Home Instead was modeled after the Netflix TV supernatural comedy series “Wednesday.”
Candle Light Cove’s inaugural Peep Show in March 2018 was included in what then was known as “Beak Week.” Even back then, the creative juices flowed in displays such as “Mary Peepkins,” a tribute to Disney character Mary Poppins, and “Fly Peeps Fly,” a nod to NFL Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles’ “Fly Eagles Fly” slogan.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of one scheduled Peep Show, but the contest has rebounded impressively. “The creative entries keep on coming,” Lyons said. “The Peep Show continues to grow.”
